Summer time is the theme for this colorful and deceptively complex Traditional style cuckoo clock. Traditional clocks do not generally employ color, relying rather on differing shades of brown stain to create contrast. This makes any use of color in a Traditional clock a highly desirable feature. In order to compliment the summer time theme, dark green ivy leaves are placed strategically along the base and top of the cuckoo clock. This design element serves two purposes. First, the colorful leaves guide the eyes of the viewer around the clock face, ensuring that no small detail is missed. Second, the placement of the leaves frames the clock dial so that it becomes a focal point without overpowering the rest of the carvings.
In order to reinforce the summer time theme, two birds are set perched amongst the leaves to either side of the clock face. The position in which they are set, slightly over top of the leaves, creates the impression of depth. This makes it seem as though the cuckoo clock is peeking out of the dense foliage associated with the Black Forest in full summer time bloom. The birds have red eyes which contrast perfectly to the dark brown stain of the rest of the clock, adding yet another element of realism.
Posed dramatically atop the clock at its very peak is an imposing stag’s head. The green leaves placed to either side of the stag serve the same function as they do with the clock’s dial, ensuring that this impressive element remains a focal point. This cuckoo clock is the perfect choice for those looking to enjoy the time honored designs of a Traditional clock combined with a slightly more modern composition. #97/9
