Traditional cuckoo clocks are well known for their skilled use of differing tones of light and dark stain to create contrast. This particular cuckoo clock takes that method a step further by adding dark green painted leaves to the clock’s design. The cuckoo clock stays true to its traditional roots with a rustic case framed by a trellis of branches. The branches are carved in surprising detail with the grooves and rings in the bark treated with skillful care. The green ivy leaves that sprout from the branches make them appear almost life like.

The leaves are carved with similar attention to detail. Their dark green color serves to accentuate the realism of the rest of the carvings but also to guide the eye around the cuckoo clock. They grow all around the exterior with a few placed tastefully at the corners of the clock face. They are finally culminated in an impressive top piece that is done in an even more ornate fashion. At the apex of the top piece, and flanked on either side by the ivy leaves, is a finely carved cuckoo bird poised dramatically as if about to take flight. This particular clock is the perfect choice for anyone interested in the famous Traditional Black Forest style while at the same time adding a modern splash of color.
