This Chalet style cuckoo clock is a delightful representation of a traditional, working Black Forest farm. One of the clock’s most striking design elements is the timbered facade used for its face. The off-white color of the facade creates an enjoyable contrast against the stain used on the rest of the clock. The stain is also light in color, giving the clock a pleasant, airy feel. The clock’s dial matches to the timbers and the stain, ensuring that it is highly visible and easy to read.
The movements for the cuckoo clock begin from the far right side. A young girl can be seen perched atop a small pile of hay. The reds in her dress match well to the green and yellow highlights of the hay. She sits before a stall in which resides her happy horse companion. He will extend his head from the stall, either to nuzzle the girl or simply to steal a few bites from her seat. To the left her father is hard at work busily pitchforking horse feed as the cuckoo calls. The red of his vest is similar to the girl’s dress and serves to guide the eye along the rest of the design. The scene continues past a small pile of wood and some farming implements, finally culminating in a turning water wheel. The blades of the wheel are finished with blue detailing at the tips, mimicking its’ movement through a lazy Black Forest stream. This cuckoo clock also features an intricately hand shingled roof and dancers that will spin and twirl as the music plays.
