This detailed clock is distinctly unique, with its design helping to set it apart from other typical chalet clocks. Rather than facing the cottage from the front, this particular timepiece depicts the house from a side view. From the center of the sloping grey-shingled roof, an ornate bell tower is carved. At the bottom of the steeple, the cuckoo bird emerges from its door, while from the top, the bell rings within the tower.
Below, the chalet is decorated with charming details including red shutters and floral boxes on the windows, and a stone wall wrapping around the bottom of the cottage. Along the base, a scene of joyous merriment is taking place – on one side, an oompah band consisting of a trumpeter, drummer, and tuba player stand and play for the festive scene. In front of them, a man in traditional Lederhosen holds a glass of beer in one hand, and a baton in the other to lead the way for the band.
On the opposite end of the clock, a couple clad in the traditional lederhosen and dirndl, dance atop a long wooden table to the band’s music. The young man strikes a pose, while the lady twirls from side to side in time with the cuckoo’s call. Behind them, a gentleman also donned in lederhosen, sits upon a large keg of beer. He likewise joins in the festivities, holding a mug of beer in one hand, and delicious German food in the other. Finishing touches to the scene include a dog standing beneath the dial, a squirrel, fir trees, and grass and stones.
