Alpine Elegance: Hönes 8-Day Chalet with Bell Ringer

This lovely 8-Day Chalet cuckoo clock has always been one of our most popular selections due to its bright colors and myriad of delightful features. Rich tones of light and dark stain match perfectly to the bright colors of the figurines arranged throughout the scene on the base of the cuckoo clock. The action begins as a water wheel begins to spin. Blue accents are painted on its blades to mimic its movement through a lazy Black Forest stream. Under the cuckoo clock's dial, a sleepy cat reclines on a hand-carved wooden bench, blissfully ignorant to the rest of the action taking place around him. Smaller details, like a traditional bucket used for fetching water on the farm along with a chicken roaming about, serve to highlight this quaint scene of Black Forest living.

The main movement to the cuckoo clock is the Black Forest Lady, dressed in traditional garb, ringing her bell in time to the cuckoos. Although the bell moves, it produces no tone. This cuckoo clock contains a bell on the inside rather than a gong and, when struck with the striker, it produces a beautiful ringing noise. The red balls on the Lady's hat refer to the fact that she is single and eligible for marriage; if she were married the balls on her hat would be black.

To complete the scene, the cuckoo clock is flanked on either side by a hay shed and a wood shed respectively. The red checkered window curtains match to the red in the Lady’s hat and apron, just as the dark green of the shutters and cuckoo door are complimented by the darker wood of the stain. Designs cut into the base that resemble Edelweiss flowers accent the rest of the theme without overpowering it. This clock also features colorful dancers that spin in time to the music, a bell tower and a hand-shingled roof.

Q: Does the bell actually make a sound?
A: Yes, but not from the exterior bell. The clock has an internal bell mechanism that rings with a clear, melodious tone each hour.

Q: What is the significance of the red balls on the lady’s hat?
A: The red pom-poms represent that the woman is single. In the Black Forest tradition, married women wear black ones.

Q: How often does the clock need winding?
A: This is an 8-day mechanical cuckoo clock, so it only needs to be wound once per week.
