Shepherd with Lantern is a beautifully expressive figure from the ANRI Bernardi Nativity collection, designed by renowned South Tyrolean sculptor Ulrich Bernardi. This humble shepherd carries a lantern and staff, symbolizing guidance and watchfulness as he approaches the sacred scene of the Nativity.
The elderly shepherd is portrayed with a gentle, thoughtful expression, leaning slightly forward as he walks with the help of his wooden staff. In his other hand he holds a glowing lantern, an important symbol of light, guidance, and faith. His flowing robe drapes naturally around his figure, reflecting the graceful movement and lifelike realism characteristic of Bernardi’s sculptural style.
His bare feet and simple garments emphasize the humility and quiet devotion of the shepherds who were among the first witnesses to the birth of Christ. The careful carving of the beard, robe folds, and posture gives the figure warmth and authenticity.
