This lovely Traditional cuckoo clock is meant to recall the bounty of summer with its skillful use of carvings and color. Richly painted blueberries and ivy leaves are placed at various intervals around the case of the clock. In addition, delicately carved birds are set amongst the ivy leaves, happily munching away at the berries as they enjoy the summer harvest. The entire case of the cuckoo clock is framed with a finely carved trellis, along which grows life like vines of ivy. The ivy and its vines match to the cuts and grooves in the trellis which serves to guide the eye around the cuckoo clock. Set on either side of the case are two birds. The fine detail work in their feathers adds a surprising element of realism. They are placed precisely to flank the cuckoo clock’s dial allowing the dial to become a focal point without overpowering the smaller elements in the clock’s design.
The blueberries are a very unique feature. As most Traditional clocks use varying shades of stain, making any use of color is a highly desirable element. The berries also serve to break up the contour of the ivy leaves allowing the viewer to take in every detail. The cuckoo clock is finally culminated in an impressive top piece with an upward facing cuckoo bird about to take flight. Surrounding the bird are yet more ivy leaves and blueberries, giving the impression that the clock is peeking out of the dense foliage of the Black Forest.
