Depicting a charming woodland cottage, this timepiece is a lovely example of the quintessential Black Forest chalet cuckoo clock. The structure’s low sloping roof is bedecked with intricately carved shingles, as atop the apex of the gable, rests a steeple housing a miniature bell. Beneath the shelter of the covered gable, the cuckoo bird appears from its door perched above a long balcony. Through the open doorway of the terrace, couples waltz circularly to the chime of the music box. On opposite ends of the balcony, small windows are decorated with the intricate details of green shutters, red curtains, and miniature floral boxes. The railing of the upper verandah is likewise bedecked with colorful flower arrangements, as delicately carved trim flanks on opposite ends.
Below, the chalet highlights charming quaint features of a wooded country cottage. Surrounding the clock face, little windows matching those on the balcony hang on opposite ends on the dial. At the base of the home, a stone lined foundation wraps around the building, with a small green door and set of wooden steps housed at the far corner.
At one end of the chalet, a rustic water wheel is housed behind a wooden fence alongside the stone wall. As the timepiece’s music box chimes merrily, the wheel spins leisurely along to the tune. Further details accentuating this one tableau include a tree, stones, a stack of chopped logs, and a gardening rake hanging above near the clock’s dial. The farm’s cat sits at rest nearby, staring with its head titled curiously. Directly beneath the clock’s face, the homestead’s rooster stands in front a water bucket, poising itself ready to crow.
At the opposite end of the clock’s base, a hen stands close to a young couple seated upon a bench. The gentleman, wearing an Alpine hat, holds an accordion in his lap, ready to serenade the lady next to him. His sweetheart has her arm extended around his shoulder, as a kitten is seated upon her lap. As the melodious sounds of the music box play, the couple turn their heads to the side and share a kiss with one another. Behind the pair, lies a small shed attached to the side of the chalet, with a ladder affixed to the wall. Surrounding the miniature structure are further details of a wooden bench, stones, fir trees, and other forest foliage.
