This Traditional style Black Forest cuckoo clock stands apart from its contemporaries due to a variety of unique and interesting features. First and foremost is the carver’s usage of bright colors. Most Traditional cuckoo clocks are known for their blending of light and dark stain to create contrast. This clock departs from that method with brightly painted leaves and several colorful and intricately carved birds. This clock also possesses yet another interesting element – several birds in addition to the cuckoo itself that will move as the cuckoo calls. Movement in Traditional style clocks is unusual, making it a highly desirable feature. The theme of this cuckoo clock is Spring Time, and the birds are meant to be welcoming the beginning of spring.
The cuckoo clock’s deign possesses the dark brown stain common to all Traditional style clocks, which contrasts against the green ivy leaves. This allows the leaves to direct the viewer’s eye around the clock case, ensuring that no small detail is missed. Two birds are placed on the case itself, arranged in a pleasing fashion. They are finished in colors that match well to the leaves and stain of the rest of the clock allowing them to become focal points without overpowering the rest of the clock’s design. Perched atop the clock in a small nest is a bird that is done in tones of red and grey. The top piece for any clock is meant to be impressive, and the top piece for this particular clock is no exception. The vines for the ivy leaves are intricately carved, and the red of the nesting bird ensures that he stands out amongst his fellows.
