The clock 522 QM is a battery-operated clock and the weights and chains have a purely decorative purpose. You cannot wind the clock manually by pulling on the chain like you would on a mechanical clock. This clock runs on three C-type batteries. The lower weight on this clock measures about 14 in from the bottom of the clock box to the lower tip of the weight. The other weight measures about 11 inches from the bottom of the clock box to he lower tip of the weight. Hope this helps!
