The cuckoo bird announcing the time comes out from behind his door above the clock dial and chimes according to the time. At 3 o'clock, for instance, he cuckoos three times. Simultaneously with his call, the two carved birds at the bottom of the clock move up and down to feed their baby birds in the nest below. They alternate when they feed their young, so when the left bird moves its beak down towards the nest, the right bird's head goes up and vice versa. Perfect team work!
