There is a wire at the bottom of this specific clock. If it is pushed all the way up, the cuckoo is always on. In the middle position, it is in automatic mode. This means that the last cuckoo call will be at 8.30 pm. At 9.00 pm it will be silent until it starts cuckooing again at 8.00 am. This timing setting is not adjustable. If the wire is pulled all the way down, it is always off. It can vary from clock to clock, however. Typically, there is a sticker indicating the different settings on the side or the back door or at the bottom of the clock. Some clocks have levers on the side instead of wires at the bottom and these clocks have different settings. If the lever is pushed all the way up, the cuckoo is always off, the middle position puts the clock in automatic night-shutoff, and if the lever is all the way down, the cuckoo is always on.
