A beautiful and intricately carved wooden sculpture, this statue of St. Michael holding his sword and shield is hand carved from maple wood and painted with oil based paint in a beautiful variety of blended and lightly textured colors. The design also features gold plated accents painted throughout the wings, armor and along the edges of many of the lines throughout the sculpture. From his bold, courageous expression, golden angelic wings and ornate armor to his flaming sword and silver shield, this sculpture is an amazingly lifelike representation of the Archangel Michael. A representation of Satan lays defeated at his feet as he readies his sword to strike the killing blow in reference to the Archangel defeating Satan and the famous Guido Reni painting "Archangel Michael" which depicts the same pose and image.
