This cuckoo clock is a classic example of the Black Forest Chalet style. Its most striking feature is a dramatic roof pitch that matches exactly to the angle of the leaves placed at its base. The leaves are done in a natural finish that allows them to stand out against the darker color of the clock’s case. This detail serves to guide the eye around the cuckoo clock giving it a dynamic quality. Red shutters also perfectly highlight the dark wood base color, while the lighter wood detailing allows the finer aspects of the cuckoo clock’s construction to come to the fore. A pair of pine trees flanks the cuckoo clock on each side, framing the scene and giving the impression that the Chalet is nestled deep in the forest. Elements of Black Forest country living are placed along the base such as a traditional Black Forest water pump and a small wood pile.
To complete the scene, a German man sits with his loyal Saint Bernard, drinking his beer in time to the cuckoos. As the bird emerges, the man will take a sip and then dramatically clink his mug against the table that sits in front of his house. The colors of his clothing match well to the color scheme of the rest of the clock, allowing him to remain a focal point without becoming overpowering. This cuckoo clock also features a detailed, hand shingled roof.
