Large and impressive, this richly appointed cuckoo clock is truly a perfect example of the Black Forest Chalet style. A finely painted water sluice guides the eye towards a moving water wheel and a young deer, then past an intricately carved German Black Forest farm scene which is dominated by a colorful pig happily munching away at his trough. Pigs are a symbol of good luck in Germany which adds a delightful element of folkish charm to the scene. The complex panorama is finally culminated with a kissing couple seated on a bench that will kiss in time to the music. A young girl demurely turns her head to accept a smooch on the cheek from her male counterpart.

The farm scene continues around both sides of the cuckoo clock allowing it to be viewed from a variety of angles giving the cuckoo clock a diorama-like quality which creates the impression that the viewer is peeking into a quaint moment of German country living. Accent work such as the dark green shutters and the small outcroppings of shrubbery serve to tie the colors together and to complete the composition.
