This impressive cuckoo clock is a perfect example of a traditional Black Forest Chalet. From the construction of the cuckoo clock case itself, to the scene that plays out around its base, this cuckoo clock contains all of the elements indicative of Black Forest country living. Starting from the left, a water wheel with blue accents on its blades turns as the music plays, which guides the eye through the rest of the scene. A carved wooden bench is placed directly beneath the cuckoo clock's dial in a pleasingly symmetrical fashion. Moving further to the right stands a German man in a grey-blue apron, chopping away at his wood pile. The man will strike the wood pile in time to the music, which serves to blend the music and the cuckoo clock's action together adding to the well composed nature of the cuckoo clocks's design.
Behind the man and wrapping around the right hand side of the cuckoo clock is a large and well-appointed wood shed, a desirable feature as typically cuckoo clocks aren’t meant to be viewed from the side. The blue in the water wheel matches to the blue in the man’s apron, which in turn matches to the green of the shutters. The color of the lighter wood surrounding the cuckoo clock's dial is repeated in other small accents, such as in the color of the wood chopper's shirt. Small colorful outcroppings of flowers are placed at intervals around the exterior which serves to tie everything together. Young courting couples will also dance as the music plays along the balcony at the top, adding further splashes of red and blue as they turn. This cuckoo clock also features a bell tower, a hand shingled roof, and delicate gingerbread work along the balcony rail.
